AI search visibility in Japan
See how ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude recommend your brand to Japanese users
AIOPulse asks AI assistants the kind of questions Japanese buyers ask, in Japanese, every day. It checks every answer for your brand and the competitors you choose, so you can see whether the AIs recommend you and how that changes over time.
For companies and agencies that sell in Japan, or plan to.
AIOPulse measures answers to Japanese questions only. It does not measure how AI assistants answer in English.
What AIOPulse measures
Questions in Japanese
For each keyword you track (a product category, or a problem your customers want solved), AIOPulse sends five fixed questions in Japanese to ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude every day at 04:00 JST.
Which brands appear
Every answer is checked for your brand and for the competitors you track. A Japanese answer may write a brand name in katakana instead of Latin letters, or the other way round, so you can register other spellings of your brand and those mentions count too.
Mention share over time
The result is your mention share: your brand's portion of all mentions of the tracked brands, recorded day by day. Measured the same way every day, it shows whether your work in Japan changes what the AIs recommend.
How we measure
The questions never contain your brand name. They ask for recommendations the way a customer would, so a brand appears only when the AI brings it up by itself. We never add your name to a question to make your share look higher: if no answer mentions you, your mention share is 0%, and we show 0%.
Measurement conditions
- For each keyword, five fixed Japanese questions go to three AI assistants every day (15 answers per keyword per day). Measurement runs daily at 04:00 JST.
- The questions ask, in different ways, for recommended products, services and brands for the keyword: for example, a request for recommendations, or a comparison of popular brands. The question set stays fixed, so one day can be compared with the next.
- Models and web search:
- ChatGPT: gpt-4o-mini, asked without web search
- Gemini: gemini-3.1-flash-lite, asked with web search enabled
- Claude: claude-haiku-4-5-20251001, asked with web search enabled
- We ask each provider's API. When we change a question or a model, the date of the change is marked on the dashboard graphs.
Mention share
Mention share is the number of answers in which a brand appears, divided by the sum of that number across all tracked brands. It is each brand's portion of the tracked brands, so the shares add up to about 100%. It is a different metric from mention rate, which shows in how many of the valid answers a brand appears.
Example: of 10 valid answers, brand A appears in 5 and brand B in 3. If A and B are the only tracked brands, A's mention rate is 50% (5 ÷ 10) and its mention share is 62.5% (5 ÷ (5 + 3)).

AIOPulse also publishes AI recommendation rankings for 56 industry categories in Japan, covering at least 250 brands and measured with the same kind of brand-neutral Japanese questions. ChatGPT and Gemini answers are collected every 2 days (at 06:00 JST), and Claude answers through a separate route, in principle every day. The rankings are in Japanese: aiopulse.jp/rankings.
What to know before you contact us
- Only answers to Japanese questions are measured. If you need to know how AI assistants answer in English, AIOPulse does not do that today.
- Answers come from each provider's API. They can differ from what a person sees in the ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude apps.
- Google AI Overviews are not measured.
- The dashboard is in Japanese, and there is no English sign-up yet. Setup goes through email.
